Frequently asked questions
Is the Wheel of Names really random?
Yes. The winner is chosen with your browser's secure random number generator before the animation starts, and the wheel then lands on that exact name. Every entry has the same chance.
How many names can I add?
You can add up to 300 names. For the best readability on a phone, we suggest keeping the list under about 40 names.
Can I add the same name more than once?
Yes. Duplicate entries are allowed, so you can give someone extra chances by listing their name several times.
Are my names saved or sent anywhere?
No. Your list and spin history stay in your own browser using local storage. Nothing is uploaded to a server.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After your first visit the site is cached, so you can open it and spin without an internet connection.
How do I install it as an app?
Press the Install app button at the top of the page. On iPhone and iPad, open the Share menu in Safari and choose Add to Home Screen.
Can I remove a winner after each spin?
Yes. Turn on the Remove winner after spin option and each winner is taken off the wheel automatically, which is handy for drawing several prizes or forming teams.
Can I share my wheel with someone?
Yes. Press Share wheel to send a link that contains your names, or copy it. Anyone who opens the link gets the same wheel. The names live in the link itself, not on a server.
Can I split names into teams?
Yes. Press Make teams, choose how many teams you need and the names are shuffled and dealt out evenly. You can shuffle again until everyone is happy.
